Seamless Steel Tube — A seamless steel tube is a pipe formed by piercing and rolling a solid steel billet without any welded seam, giving the uniform, defect-resistant body required for drill pipe, drill collars and most oilfield tubulars.

What a seamless tube is
A seamless steel tube is made by piercing a hot solid billet to form a hollow shell, then rolling and sizing it to final dimensions — all without a longitudinal weld. The absence of a seam means there is no weld line to act as a stress raiser or corrosion path, giving a uniform grain structure and consistent wall around the circumference.
Because drill string tubulars endure high pressure, tension, torsion and cyclic bending, they are manufactured seamless under API specifications such as 5DP (drill pipe) and 5CT (casing and tubing). Drill collars are machined from solid seamless bar.
