Iraq is one of the world’s most significant oil provinces, with reserves concentrated in a cluster of southern super-giant fields — Rumaila, West Qurna, Majnoon and Zubair among them — around Basra, plus additional producing structures in the Kurdistan region to the north. The southern fields are developed under long-term service and technical-service contracts, drawing a wide roster of international operators and national partners, while the Kurdistan region has its own production-sharing framework.

Operators active across the country include BP, ENI, PetroChina and Lukoil, alongside the state companies. Activity is oil-weighted and volume-driven, spanning large development campaigns and workover programmes in mature giants. Sour reservoirs are common, making NACE-compliant material a routine requirement.

Large development and workover programmes in deep, often sour reservoirs demand robust, certified strings. Standard drill pipe and heavy-weight drill pipe carry the load, with drill collars and non-magnetic collars for directional sections, and sour-service material where H2S is present. Workover-heavy activity also puts a premium on workstring tubing and dependable fishing capability.
