Class 2 Pipe — Class 2 is a used-drill-pipe classification under API RP 7G-2 and DS-1 in which the tube retains at least about 70 percent of its nominal wall thickness, giving lower load ratings than Premium Class but remaining serviceable for less demanding applications.

What Class 2 means
Class 2 is a condition grade for used drill pipe defined by API RP 7G-2 and DS-1. A Class 2 joint has more wall loss than Premium Class but still meets a minimum remaining wall of roughly 70 percent of the nominal wall thickness, with defect and connection limits appropriate to the grade. Because the wall is thinner, its torsional, tensile, collapse and internal-pressure ratings are derated below the Premium values.
Class 2 pipe is suitable for lighter or shallower applications where the reduced ratings still provide an adequate safety margin. Some standards further mark Class 2 pipe with a paint band and stencil so it is easily distinguished in the field.

- Below Class 2 limits — the joint is typically rejected or scrapped.
Mixing classes in a string requires designing to the lowest grade present, so class must be tracked jointly.
